We have always believed in a collaborative team effort rather than top-down instruction. Granit has run this way since we set up in 1988, and it\u2019s part of our DNA. You can see it in everything we do, from how we design buildings, where we go on our summer outings, the Christmas cards we send, and how we run our practice.<\/p>\n
Granit\u2019s owners decided in 2021 to transfer 100% of their shares into a new Employee Owned Trust called Granit Trustees Ltd, the beneficiaries of which are our team. You will know of other companies owned in trust by their employees, such as John Lewis and Waitrose, from the John Lewis Partnership.<\/p>\n
Operating in this way empowers our team. It helps them feel more valued and is a significant tool for attracting talented architects, interior designers and practice management staff (and keeping them). We can more easily reward our team when the practice does well, as they share the rewards of this success as beneficiaries of our Employee-Owned Trust.<\/p>\n
This ownership structure will help with the longevity of our practice as our team members are all motivated to work with us for the long term. It helps us to think bigger picture, too, as we don\u2019t have to worry so much about our senior team members retiring.<\/p>\n
The impact on our clients is all positive. The company\u2019s day-to-day running remains the responsibility of our directors, associates, and experienced team. The primary difference is that all our team members can directly influence how the company runs and benefit from its success. We believe this will motivate them to continue providing excellent service, as it is only through delighting our clients that they will be rewarded.<\/p>\n
